Classic Childhood Games
Thanks for visiting Games We Played!
Here, you will find a treasure trove of information about the creative, unstructured classic childhood games that we played in the 1970s and 1980s in New York when I was a boy. Back then, we picked the teams, we didn’t join them. We made the rules, we didn’t obey them. Play was the business of kids. No adult supervision was needed — or wanted. They did big people things, and we did little people things, in a big way. Play was our business, and we took it seriously.
I hope that this blog [re]ignites the spirit of classic childhood play. I hope it reminds big kids about the fun they had when they played in their neighborhoods as kids and I hope that it encourages parents of kids today to open the door and let their children get out and play, the old fashioned way.
Here, you can reminisce about childhood memories that you had playing in the streets, courtyards, back gardens and sidewalks of your neighborhood.
You can also buy my book, Games We Played, which contains the rules for over 100 classic childhood games.
I look forward to seeing you around on the playground.
