Category Archives: Nerf Basketball Daydreams and Heroes
Most young boys and girls daydream about being superstars. Childhood play taps the spirit of the best athletes in the world and fuels the hearts and imaginations of young boys and girls around the world. When I was growing up in New York, children channeled Phil Esposito, Bryan Trottier, Dorothy Hamill, Denis Potvin, Nadia Comaneci, Pele, Tom Seaver, Thurman Munson, Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, Chris Everett, Billy Jean King, Mark Spitz, Mohammad Ali, Pete Rose, Earl Monroe, Walt Frazier, Joe Namath and so many other great athletes of the time.
Today, the athletes are different, but the daydreams are the same.
Nerf basketball gave kids a chance to replicate some of the moves that their heroes made the night before. It made children feel like superstars for a moment in their lives. Most importantly, it was great fun. Playing Nerf H-O-R-S-E inside on a rainy day was a guaranteed happy time.
What superstars did you daydream about when you were young?
